Frequently Asked Questions About Our Foreign Language Training

Below are a list of our most frequently asked questions. Can't find the answer you're looking for? Contact us and we'll be happy to help.

1. What languages does Babel cover?

Babel offers training in a wide variety of languages. While English, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Mandarin and Portuguese are among our most popular options, we can support any major world language. We create customised language programs tailored to your specific needs, no matter which language you require.

2. How long do Babel’s language training programmes last?

We offer a great deal of flexibility when it comes to the length of a language training programme and a lot depends on your needs. We can provide everything from weekly drip-feed lessons up to more intensive daily sessions. During an initial exploratory session, we’ll work with you to design a programme that’s just right for helping you achieve your language learning goals.

3. Are the training programmes customisable to our company's specific needs?

Absolutely! Our number one goal is to provide a training programme that suits the needs of your organisation. Whether that means focusing on specific language skills, aligning with industry terminology or adjusting the schedule to accommodate your team's availability, we tailor every aspect of the training to ensure it fits seamlessly with your company's goals and requirements.

4. What is the expertise of your language tutors?

All of our language tutors have at least 3 years of experience teaching their target language and hold a certification in foreign language instruction. We carefully select our tutors to ensure that our training programmes are of the highest quality and many of our tutors have been with us for years, bringing both experience and consistency to the learning process.

5. Can you accommodate different proficiency levels among our employees?

No matter your or your team's starting proficiency level, we tailor our training to suit each learner. We understand that every language learner is unique, which is why we assess proficiency before the programme begins. This allows us to provide the right materials and employ the right teaching methodologies to help learners get the most out of their lessons, ensuring a successful and effective language training program.

6. How do you assess the progress of participants in the training program?

We conduct regular assessments throughout your language training programme to assess the progress of each participant. The timeframe on this will be agreed before the programme starts.

7. Is the training conducted in person or online?

Our language training courses are primarily conducted online via a suitable video call platform such as Zoom, Teams etc. However, on a case-by-case basis, we are able to provide in-person training if this training option better suits your organisation’s needs.

8. What resources and materials are provided during the training?

Before a new training programme commences, our tutors will decide upon the best materials and resources to use in order to deliver a successful programme. This may be a specific textbook or other resources that will enable your training programme to be a success.

9. How long will it take me to become proficient in a new language?

This varies significantly and depends on many factors including your prior language learning experience, the complexity of the target language, your level of dedication and practice, and the immersion opportunities available. Achieving a high level of proficiency in a new language can take several months to a few years. Consistent and regular practice, combined with lessons with a trained tutor can help adult learners progress steadily towards their language learning goals.

10. What is the cost structure for your training programs?

Our language training programmes start at £45 per hour, depending on the language requested. This includes a dedicated account manager and regular monthly reporting, keeping you up to date on the progress of the programme.

11. Are lessons available in the evenings and on weekends?

Yes. We are happy to build a bespoke schedule based on your organisation’s needs, including in the evenings and on weekends.

12. How much course work is expected to be completed as homework?

Homework is provided on a case-by-case basis and is decided between the tutor and the learner(s). We always encourage learners to do some kind of homework between lessons in order to practice certain skills or solidify knowledge gained in class. Each tutor will assign homework based on the programme needs and the availability of each learner.

13. How many students make up a typical group class?

We provide both one-on-one and group training. In the case of group lessons, we typically recommend a maximum of 6 learners per group in order to ensure each learner gets enough attention and interaction with the tutor. This allows for a more personalised learning experience while still benefiting from group dynamics like collaborative practice and peer support.

14. Can you provide references or case studies from previous clients?

We have a number of case studies on our website where you can read about some of the work we have done in the past as well as current clients we are currently providing language training for.

15. How can our company get started with your language and cultural training services?

Simply contact us via our website, telephone or email and we will set up an introductory call to learn more about your organisation and your language training needs.

"I have been having very intensive French lessons over the last 5 weeks in preparation for my expat move. Our tutor did a fantastic job of developing a lesson plan, prepping me for the essentials and covering the basics, giving me a strong French foundation on which I can build over the coming years. She was very flexible with lesson times, working around my schedule and always brought a lot of energy and enthusiasm, no matter how early in the morning or late in the evening it was!"
